Itinerary
03:50 am – Hotel Pickup (optional).
Start your adventure stress-free. Your friendly driver will greet you by name right at your hotel lobby and help you get comfortably settled. We offer pickup from any resort in Cancun, Costa Mujeres, and Riviera Maya.
06:00 am – Arrival at Mena Fly Fishing Lodge.
We’ll gather at our charming fishing lodge — easy street parking is available if you’re driving yourself. Meet your experienced guide and our warm local family team. Enjoy freshly brewed coffee and a light breakfast while we fine-tune your rod and flies for the day.
06:45 am – Morning Fishing Session.
It’s time to cast off! Enjoy a peaceful 4.5-hour fishing experience in the calm morning waters. You’ll be surrounded by nature — just you, your guide, and the thrill of the catch.
11:30 am – Lunch & Rest.
Recharge with a delicious homemade lunch, followed by some well-deserved downtime. You’ll have access to a private hotel room with A/C, hot shower, and bathroom — perfect for a power nap, freshening up, or simply relaxing.
This midday break is essential — it’s the hottest part of the day and the least active time for tarpon, so we pause to care for you and maximize the fishing results.
03:30 pm – Sunset fishing session.
As the sun begins to set, we head out for a 3.5-hour second session, with entirely new light, scenery, and conditions. It’s a beautiful way to end the day, and often the most rewarding!
07:30 pm – Farewell Bites & Departure.
Before heading back, we’ll serve you a light meal and hot coffee to enjoy while sharing stories from the day.
If you’ve booked transportation, your driver will be ready and waiting to take you safely back to your hotel — just as you started, with care and comfort.
Boats and equipment
All Equipment Provided — Just Bring Your Passion for Fishing
You don’t need to worry about packing any gear — we provide all the fishing equipment you’ll need. That said, here’s a glimpse of the high-quality setups we use:
- We fish from 18-foot pangas, perfect for navigating the shallow lagoons and coastal waters.
- For juvenile tarpon, we typically use 8 to 9-weight rods with floating lines, ideal for making accurate casts in shallow water — sometimes just a foot deep. Our go-to flies are small 1/0 wet flies and gurglers, designed to trigger aggressive strikes.
- In the calm waters of the lagoons, we use 40–50 lb monofilament leaders, which sink more slowly than fluorocarbon — a big advantage in these conditions.
- For those targeting larger, migratory tarpon, we gear up with 10 to 11-weight rods, intermediate sinking lines, and 2/0 flies. Heavier 60–80 lb fluorocarbon leaders help manage the power of these giants. (Seasonal and under request)
- Whether you’re a seasoned angler or it’s your first time fly fishing, we’ve got the right setup for a successful day on the water.
What am I going to eat?
Fresh, Local & Personalized Meals
All our meals are thoughtfully prepared using the catch of the day and fresh, seasonal sides. We believe food should be part of the experience — that’s why we’ll reach out to you before the tour to ask about your dietary preferences or any allergies, so everything we serve is both safe and satisfying.
Our homemade meals are often one of the highlights of the day — highly praised by our returning anglers for their flavor, freshness, and care.
