Non-Angling Activities
Although Mena Fly Fishing is a fly fishing destination, the location is top-notch for non-anglers too. We offer activities for non-anglers such as Mayan Ruins from mainstream like Chichen Itza, to newer ones such as Ek-Balam. Also eco-tours like bird-watching and crocodile spotting.
“Mena Fly Fishing does not accommodate non-angling guests who are not accompanied by a fishing companion. Our non-angling programs are designed to keep non-angling guests entertained while a roommate is on the water fishing.”
Bird Watching
San Felipe is low land within mangroves and shallow waters. A protected area house of flamingos and more than 35 bird species. Among the birds you can encounter are: Yellow-backed Oriole, Yellow-tailed Oriole, Green Jay, Yucatan Jay, Lesson’s Motmot, Turquoise-browed Motmot, Yucatan Woodpecker, Rufous-browed Peppershrike, Rose-throated Becard, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Summer Tanager, Tennessee Warbler and Indigo Bunting.
Archeological Sites and Villages
San Felipe is located in the heart of the Yucatan Peninsula. We can visit one of the seven wonders of the world, Chichen Itza. Also, Ek Balam is an interesting and fairly recently discovered archaeological site on the Yucatan peninsula. This ancient Maya city may not be as famous as the Chichen Itza archaeological site (56 km northeast). But the Mayan ruins of Ek Balam attract far fewer tourists and are therefore much quieter. Valladolid, Tizimin and other “magic” villages are on the radar.
Sightseeing & Cenotes
As we are located in a natural reserve there are so many spots for sightseeing. Cenotes are sinkholes connected to the largest underground river system in the world where we can swim at.
Relaxation by the beach
We have a “private island” where you can relax, swim, and sunbath. We say it’s “private” because there are no people at all.
