Mexico provides a wonderful range of Tarpon Fly Fishing. Whether you’re a beginner, learning the basics, or an expert seeking some excellent fishing, these locations should be on your list if you’re thinking about going to Tarpon Fishing in Mexico.

Yucatan Tarpon Fishing

Yucatan has some great spots for finding small and medium-sized tarpon due to its diverse lagoons, mangrove shorelines, channels, and flats, but specifically, approximately 2 hours driving from Cancun and 3 hours from Mérida with barely 2,000 residents, colorful streets, and stunning sunsets, San Felipe is one of the world’s richest sites for young tarpon by far. Located at the “Reserva de la Biósfera de Ria Lagartos” you will be able to witness the unique pink flamingos of this area, white pelicans, and tons of baby tarpon or a large number of juvenile tarpon that can weigh up to 5 and 25 pounds. You can come in any time of the year but April to October is prime time for tarpon fly fishing here.

Cancun Tarpon Fishing

If you’re thinking of some fishing in the Caribbean sea, Cancun has a nice calm area with sandy shallows only a few inches deep. Isla Blanca, located just to the north of the hotel zone, offers all year-round Tarpon, baby Tarpon and miles of lovely unspoiled waters away from the hustle and bustle of the hotel zone. The summer season from June to October, is the best time to visit, since the lowest season runs from January to February and December, although, there’s no off time.

Holbox Tarpon Fishing

Located at the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, Holbox is a popular fishing destination where you can seek tarpon of all sizes all year long, from resident juveniles to trophy tarpon in the ocean. The silver king emerges in April to feed in the waters of Holbox, and fishing for 75-to 190-pound tarpon is quite common during June, July, and August. Although, depending on the climate and other conditions, this fishing can be successful or not so much.

Campeche Tarpon Fishing

Located on the Yucatan Peninsula’s northwest coast, Campeche offers some solid fishing for baby tarpon. due to the habitat’s preservation, the health of the mangroves, and the unaltered freshwater flow from creeks that feed the Bay of Campeche. Late spring, summer, and early autumn have the most stable weather, while winter months can be tougher with cold fronts but offer some comfortable air temperatures.

Gulf of Mexico Tarpon Fishing

The silver king is easily distinguishable throughout the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Throughout the year, tarpon fishing is quite unpredictable. Peek month is on July, while the lowest season is from November to December and January to April, but there isn’t an off-season.

Cabo San Lucas Tarpon Fishing

Looking for something a little further north, Cabo San Lucas, at the southern end of the Baja California Peninsula, is globally known for a wide range of species, like Black Marlin and Rooster Fish. Unfortunately, Tarpon fishing is quite rare, although you may catch some similar specimens, like ladyfish or snook.
